Last Sunday, we celebrated Father’s Day. Today, I want to use our devotional to speak to all our men. Godly men play an important role in displaying attributes of God: loving, forgiving, caring, and kind. Today’s extremes of the macho man and the wimpy man are contributing to the degeneration and collapse of the family unit. Now, more than ever, we need godly men. A godly man:
(1) Is born again. Being born again (not the religious or legalistic kind) brings a change of heart, mind, and lifestyle. You will have a new love for your wife, children, and people. You will function differently than the way you did before.
(2) Respects and obeys God’s Word. Godly men love the Word of God and make it central to their lives and homes. Quit thinking the Bible isn’t relevant to your complex situation. There’s a word in the Bible to take you through every situation. Let God’s Word be your final authority.
(3) Rejects the impurities of our day. “Whoever sows sin reaps weeds, and bullying anger sputters into nothing” (Prov. 22:8). Impurity destroys the work of the Holy Spirit because He cannot work in the midst of sin. Sin erodes your love for God and your desire to be with His people. If you want to be a godly man, you must not allow impure thoughts or habits to rule your life.
(4) Godly men fear the Lord. Proverbs 16:6 says, “By the fear of the Lord one keeps away from evil.” The Holy Spirit lives within you. Your life should be lived in reverence and awe of God. Be careful about what you say, how you say it, and what you think and do.
