The Battle Belongs To The Lord
Monday March 23rd, 2020
As promised, I am reaching out to you every other day to encourage you with God’s Word of hope during this time when the world is in panic. We join the church worldwide in praying for all healthcare workers, scientists working on vaccines and treatments for COVID-19, police, supermarkets, and essential store workers. Let us also remember to pray for our government in these trying times. God is still in control!
In our text today we read that “… armies of the Moabites, Ammonites, and some Meunites… declared war on Jehoshaphat” the king of Judah. This understandably terrified Jehoshaphat, who with all of Judah turned to God for guidance (vv 3-4). Note that Jehoshaphat’s first reaction was human. He was fearful. But then he channeled his fear into faith by calling the tribe of Judah to look to God through fasting and prayer.
Today, our world is facing a common enemy, COVID-19. This has caused panic and fear as we hear of the rising number of cases and deaths in our country and in the world. People are understandably worried. We have never seen anything like this; not in our lifetime. But we can take a cue from Jehoshaphat. We can rise in faith by standing before God in prayer.
“Jehoshaphat stood before the community of Judah and Jerusalem in front of the…Temple of the LORD. He prayed, ‘O LORD… you alone are the God who is in heaven. You are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you!’”
Did you catch that? God is powerful and mighty; no one can stand against Him! When we face overwhelming threats in our lives it is easy to think God has lost control. But as it was when the Army of Judah was threatened by enemies who had joined forces, God is reminding us today, “Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
Rest in peace. God has everything under His control.
