The Benefits of Corporate Worship

Part 1

July 17th, 2019
Read: Hebrews 10:25

Hebrews 10:25 encourages believers to assemble together for corporate worship. Over the next few weeks we’ll look at some benefits of corporate worship as described in scripture.

(1) God’s ordained servants provide a fresh and challenging Word.
More than an inspiring thought or a good exhortation, scripture based preaching brings life to the Word of God. It is powerful and effective, like a two-edged-sword cutting away hardness of heart, stubbornness of will, selfishness of life, and compromised faith (Heb. 4:12).

(2) The Holy Spirit moves in the individual’s body, mind, and Spirit convicting, changing, refreshing, and renewing.
God’s Word transforms and renews or minds (Rom. 12:2). The Hebrew word for “renewal” is hayab which means “to be quickened; to recover health and strength; to refresh a person who is weary; to receive a new flow of spiritual life.” When our people are showing signs of no longer enjoying spiritual life-flow, losing interest in spiritual things or leaving their first-love relationship with God, they are in need of renewal. Corporate gatherings provide a setting for conviction, repentance, and a fresh flow to begin again in their lives.

When we gather corporately, leaders and believers help to renew: (i) your strength in the Lord (Isaiah 40:30-41; Luke 22:32); (ii) your “altar” or heart to seek the Lord (II Chronicles 15:8, 12); (iii) your spiritual warfare (Job 29:20); (iv) your thinking (Ephesians 4:23); and (v) your inward man (II Cor. 4:6). Encouragement and motivation are key elements of corporate worship.

How are you doing? Do you feel like despite trying to grow spiritually you are still struggling? As iron sharpens iron, when we meet together let’s encourage each other by God’s Word.
