From Commitment to Lifestyle

We are now two days into 2019. As we use this time to create and focus our New Year’s resolutions, let’s talk about building a life that will allow us to finish strong. The reality is that progress is difficult, and relapse is easy. All of us know what it’s like to take a few steps back. So, the question is, how do we overcome set-backs? How do we maintain our momentum when trying to achieve something new, or change a defeating pattern? We do this by moving from commitments, to living a lifestyle. We need to build certain habits in our lives that will sustain us for a lifetime of health and progress. This week, let’s look at two of these habits.
(1) Set aside daily time to evaluate your practices and progress. Daily reflection gives us an accurate understanding of our situations, which we can use to honestly evaluate our behaviour and adjust what is necessary. The Bible tells us, “Each one should test his own actions” (Gal 6). This time can also be used to glorify God with thanksgiving for all He has given you and to reconnect with the Father in light of your goals.
(2) Build Biblical truths. The Bible is not only full of truth, but full of the power to supernaturally produce change in you. “The Word of God is living and active” (Heb. 4:12). Reading the Word gives a reservoir of truth and guidance to draw upon, so you can be inspired within your situations, and better aware of how God wants you to act. Building truth in your heart will change your character and reshape your life.
What will you do to put these two habits into practice in your life everyday?
