Daniel Fast

January 07, 2023 - January 27, 2023

Save the date & join us for our corporate fast. We will be ending the fast with a week of Prayer, from Tuesday January 23 to Friday January 27, starting at 8pm each night for 1 hour.

You can send in your prayer requests HERE.

Why do we Fast?

It strengthens our relationship with God & allows us to put aside our daily distractions to put more focus on Him. Through centering our daily intentions on God we are realigning our hearts with Him. Scripture shows us that through fasting God works miraculously in people’s lives.

What Scripture says about Fasting?

2 1 I gave orders for all of us to fast and humble ourselves before our God. We prayed that He would give us a safe journey and protect us, our children, and our goods as we traveled. 22… “Our God’s hand of protection is on all who worship him, but his fierce anger rages against those who abandon him.” 23 So we fasted and earnestly prayed that our God would take care of us, and He heard our prayer.           Ezra 8:22-23

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”   Matthew 4:1-4

How to Prepare for Fasting?

Decide on what it is that you would like to fast, it can be food, social media anything in your life that is consuming your time & focus. Traditionally the Daniel Fast is abstaining from animal products, leavened breads, processed foods, caffeine & alcohol.

Fasting can be challenging mentally, physically & spiritually. God will be with you to strengthen you every step of the way.

Spiritual Preparation

  1. Pray

Pray & repent before you begin the fast. This will prepare your heart for what God has planned for you during & after the fast.

  1. Read Scripture

Spend time in scripture reading about what God says about fasting and how He has responded to those who have fasted in the Bible. This will encourage you and bring you closer to God through any difficulty or struggle that comes your way during the Fast. Suggested passages are Exodus 34:28, Isaiah 58:6, Joel 2:12, 2 Chronicles 20:1-4, Ezra 8:21-23, Jonah, Matthew 4:1-11, Matthew 6:16-18, Matthew 9:14-17, Luke 2:37, Acts 13:3, 1 Corinthians 10:13

  1. Journal

Record your prayer requests, keep that list on hand for daily prayer. Express how the Lord is revealing Himself to you & what you would like to increase or change spiritually by this fast.

  1. Partner with someone

Having someone who can help lift you up, give you support & pray with you during the fast is advantageous.

Physical Preparation

  1. Ease into the fast

Start cutting back on restricted foods & activities before the fast begins. This will help you not only physically but also mentally ease into the Fast in a gradual progression.

  1. Have a meal plan & grocery list ready

This will save you lots of time and make shopping more efficient.

  1. Cook and freeze meals ahead of time

Save yourself time by preparing food in advance.

When you do your part in getting ready, God will do the rest!

We are here to support & encourage you!

In the last week of the fast, join us at the church for nights of Corporate Prayer. Tuesday January 24th to Friday January 27th, from 8-9pm.
